چکیده

Double-dwell acquisition structures have typically been proposed as better alternatives to single-dwell structures from the point of view of the Mean Acquisition Time (MAT). Traditional approaches divide the double-dwell structure into an acquisition stage with short integration time, followed by a verification stage with longer integration time, which should provide a smaller global false alarm probability than a single-dwell structure (i.e., only the acquisition stage). However, if we fix from the beginning the global detection probability and the global false alarm probability, little is known about how to design the parameters of the double-dwell structure (i.e., detection and false alarm probabilities at each stage) for a minimum MAT, and under which conditions (if any), the double-dwell structure is better than a singledwell structure aiming at exactly the same global detection probability and global false alarm probability. This paper proposes a comprehensive analysis of the choice of detection and false alarm probabilities at each stage of a doubledwell structures for a realistic Galileo signal with Binary-Offset-Carrier BOC(1,1) modulation and 10230-chip length pseudorandom codes. We also present here the conditions under which a double-dwell structure is indeed better (from MAT point of view) than a single-dwell structure and we discuss the steps to be taken in the design process of the double-dwell acquisition structure.

Hybrid Search Single and Double-dwell Acquisition Architectures for Galileo Signal

GPS and Galileo receivers must perform two dimensional searches, in time and in frequency, in order to acquire the correct code phase and correct Doppler frequency. Accurate and fast acquisition plays an important role in achieving reliable satellite-based positioning. When the code length is high (e.g., Galileo and modernized GPS), the searching strategy is of utmost concern for fast signal ac...

Analysis of Filter-Bank-Based Methods for Fast Serial Acquisition of BOC-Modulated Signals

Binary-offset-carrier (BOC) signals, selected for Galileo and modernized GPS systems, pose significant challenges for the code acquisition, due to the ambiguities (deep fades) which are present in the envelope of the correlation function (CF). This is different from the BPSK-modulated CDMA signals, where the main correlation lobe spans over 2-chip interval, without any ambiguities or deep fades...

On the Choice of the Parameters for Fast Hybrid-search Acquisition Architectures of Gps and Galileo Signals

Modernized GPS and the new European satellite system, Galileo, specify the use of pseudorandom (PRN) codes of much higher spreading factors than the traditional C/A GPS signal. Thus, the acquisition process becomes more challenging, since the code uncertainty region is significantly increased. New and faster acquisition algorithms are necessary to improve the performance for a variety of satell...

An Efficient Time-Frequency Algorithm for Weak Signal Acquisition of Modernized GNSS Signals

The new GPS/Galileo/Compass signals use much longer code lengths and higher code frequencies than the GPS L1 C/A signal. As a result, they can provide improved ranging and anti-jamming performances. Unfortunately, their acquisition complexity is significantly higher, especially in the high sensitivity or weak signal acquisition context. Acquisition of very weak signals requires long integration...

PN Acquisition Schemes Using RAKE Structure for DS/SS Systems over a Frequency-Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel 139 PN Acquisition Schemes Using RAKE Structure for DS/SS Systems over a Frequency-Selective Rayleigh Fading Channel

This paper proposes noncoherent PN acquisition schemes that combine the hybrid structure, the RAKE structure, and the double/multiple-dwell technique in order to improve the performance in a frequency-selective fading channel. The hybrid structure reduces the acquisition time compared to a serial scheme. The RAKE structure enhances the received signal strength of a multipath faded signal, while...
